“Dreams don’t come true, goals do”. This quote fires me UP…..but if you’re not in a place where you are setting attainable goals that make you feel successful, the thought of even setting any can be daunting.
Goal setting is a process that starts with careful consideration of what you want to achieve, and ends with a lot of hard work to actually do it. But you know what? Everything in life is so much sweeter when a whole lot of sweat and dedication go into it.
Here are a few ways to help define your goals and crush them:
1. Set Goals That Motivate You
When you set goals for yourself, it is important that they motivate you: this means making sure that they are important to you, and that there is value in achieving them. If you have little interest in the outcome, the chances of you putting in the work to make them happen are slim. Motivation is key to achieving goals.
What are some high priorities in your life? Start there. You want to narrow down what is most important to you so that you don’t have so many that you feel unfocused with little time to devote to each one. Goal achievement requires commitment, so to maximize the likelihood of success, you need to feel a sense of urgency and have an “I must do this” attitude.
2. Set Time frames
Your goals need to be clear, well defined, and detailed….even down to time frame. This will help provide direction for you and from here you can organize your goals in succession. When you know which ones you are able to hit first you will feel so much more motivated to get to work achieving them.
3. Make an Action Plan
This step is often missed in the process of goal setting. You get so focused on the outcome that you forget to plan all of the steps that are needed along the way. By writing out the individual steps, and then crossing each one off as you complete it, you’ll realize that you are making progress towards your ultimate goal. This is especially important if your goal is big and demanding, or long-term.
4. Stick With It!
Build in reminders to keep yourself on track, and make regular time-slots available to review your goals. For me, I review my goals every morning so that my brain is focused the entire rest of the day on achieving them. It may get tough throughout the process, but never decrease the goal, increase the effort. The character development to staying committed is invaluable! Always ask yourself throughout the day: “is this getting me further away from my goal or closer to it?”
Goals are such a vital piece to our success and once you crush one, you’ll be so motivated for the next! Keep your head high, stay motivated to accomplish them, and have fun as you discover just how tough, resilient, and capable you are!
I hope these quick steps have got you ready to start defining your own goals and crushing them!
Happy Sunday and have a wonderful week!
Yours in health,
