In 2019, my family was blessed to have had a year full of many amazing memories with those we love. We also had our fair share of bumps in the road. Some were really unexpected, but honestly those were the ones that refined us and I am forever grateful. I know that God had his hand in those road bumps 100% and as a result, they brought some people out of our lives, but some amazing and incredible people in!
As you reflect on what you want out of next year, know that the greatest gift you can give yourself is the gift of investing in YOURSELF.
Here’s a few easy steps to invest in yourself in 2020:
–Make better choices (consistently) For me this refers to nutrition (like eating more protein as opposed to carbs), but this can mean anything for you. It could mean joining a gym, spending less money on things outside of the budget. Really, it means anything that improves your life.
–Get more sleep…turn off your phone and commit yourself to a good night’s rest. You’ll allow your body to recover, replenish, and reduce inflammation. There’s tons of research that says that proper recovery reduces cancer cell production.
–MOVE your body…whatever this means for you! For me, it’s ofcourse CrossFit, but it also means listening to my body/stretching on a more regular basis (because dang, my 32 year old knees aren’t my 18 year old ones, ugh). For others, this could mean going for a walk at the end of the day, going for a run, whatever it is, just move!
–Eat healthier…I have to be bold about this because I know how important it is. Just quit eating the crap. It doesn’t make you feel better. Fuel your body with the right things…meats, veggies, nuts, seeds, water. I’m not saying go on a diet. But make an effort to eat healthier and see what happens at the END of 2020! If you need help, reach out…get in a program that will TEACH you what it means to make better choices! Step 1 is to remove all the crap out of the house. Once it’s out, your foundation is clean and you can start fresh. You won’t be tempted to eat anything you shouldn’t because it’s not there!
–Meditate/do something to calm your mind and help you stay focused…man, this one is powerful! If you’ve never heard of the RAS (reticular activiating system), go check out this video! It’s absolutely amazing and will change the way you start your day, ultimately changing the outcome of your day! Focusing on positive things changes the way your brain thinks and the way YOU operate! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCnfAzAIhVw&t=38s
–Drink more water…better brain fuction, joint mobility, better skin, helps you lose weight faster….need I say more?! You can’t drink enough!!
–Read more personal development books…If you’re not trying to get better, HOW will you get better? It’s so important to learn new things, challenge yourself, strive for more! I honestly don’t like reading, so podcasts are more my jam! My top favorites are Ed Mylett, Steve Harvey, and Lori Harder!
–Write out a list of 100 things you want to accomplish and read them to yourself every day (seriously a game changer)….I learned this from Steve Harvey. He says to write out a list of dreams and to read them every day. Make that list HUGE and write anything your heart desires because “imagination is the preview to life’s coming attractions”…meaning that if you are imagining it, God has put that in your heart! At the end of the year, you’ll be surprised by how many things are marked off your bucket list!
Remember, it’s okay to invest in yourself because at the end of the day you will only become better: a better mother, wife, friend. And that not only benefits you, it benefits everyone around you!
In 2020, be committed to controlling only what you can!
- learn to embrace the uncomfortable
- be teachable and willing to learn new things
- be bold with your goals and work towards them every single day
Here’s to an amazing year sweet friends! I can’t WAIT to see where you go!!
